Terrance was born in Marshall, Minnesota on October 28, 1949. His parents were Terrance Airhart and Doris (Foss). He had a younger brother, Rory James, born in 1951.

Terrance passed away in Garland, Texas on December 26, 1986 and is buried in Wimberley, Texas. Notice of death originally published in the Austin American Statesman on January 5, 1987.
